
Sidel SBO and Matrix Heaters: No Hacks, Just a Perfect Fit
Heating PET preforms is a bit of a balancing act. If you mess up the infrared distribution, you end up with a scorched base or a body that’s still too cold to blow. It’s a headache. That’s why we build our heating elements to fit Sidel machines exactly—whether you’re running the old-school SBO lines or the newer Matrix series. It’s all about the fit. Look, getting a heater to physically fit in the slot is the easy part. The real trick is making sure it doesn’t blow a fuse the second you flip the switch. We spec our lamps to match the voltage and wattage of your Sidel oven exactly. If you’re on a standard 230V setup or a high-density 400V rig, our tubes match that load. We use precision-ground quartz glass because, in this business, a couple of millimeters is the difference between a smooth install and a nightmare. Too long? It won’t seat. Too short? You get cold spots. Neither is acceptable. The details that actually matter. We apply special coatings to the quartz to shift how the heat hits the plastic. Instead of just searing the surface, the heat actually sinks deeper into the PET wall. And let’s talk about the connectors. This is where the cheap knock-offs usually fall apart. We use industrial-grade R7s and Sk15 terminals. They handle the constant heating and cooling without oxidizing or shaking loose. These are true drop-in replacements. You pull the old lamp out, slide ours in, wire it up, and you’re done. No drilling, no bending frames, no “making it work.” One thing to keep in mind… You might be tempted to go with high-wattage lamps to speed up your cycles and push more throughput. It works, but there’s a trade-off. More power means more heat soaking into your oven. If you decide to upgrade to higher-density heaters, just double-check your cooling fans. You need to make sure your ventilation can actually move that extra heat away, otherwise, you risk warping your reflectors. And nobody wants to deal with that.
