
Getting Your PET Blowing Line Back Up and Running with 400V IR Radiators
If you’re running a PET blowing line, you know the drill. You need those shortwave IR lamps to soften the preforms just right before the stretch. If the heat is off, the whole batch is scrap. We built our 400V IR radiators to be simple. No fuss. They’re designed to slide right into Krones equipment or pretty much any other global blowing system you’ve got on the floor. The deal with voltage and heat Here’s the thing about 400V: it lets these lamps hit higher wattages without pulling so much current that you’re constantly tripping breakers. It creates a really concentrated blast of heat. For you, that means the preform walls heat up faster and the heat profile stays tight. But a word of caution—since these pack a punch, your forced-air cooling needs to be on point. If your blowers are clogged with dust, the housing will overheat and you’ll burn through your filaments way too fast. Keep them clean. The guts of the lamp We didn’t go cheap on the materials. We use heavy-wall quartz glass because thin glass bows when it gets hot, and that’s a recipe for disaster. Inside, the tungsten filament is halogen-filled. This stops the tungsten from evaporating too quickly, which lets the lamp run hotter while keeping the glass clear. As for the plugs, we stick to standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. You can just plug them into your existing sockets. No need to mess with the wiring harness or call in an electrician for a basic swap. Will it actually fit? Usually, the biggest headache is the footprint. We’ve spec’d our dimensions to match the tight tolerances of Krones and other OEM racks. Because we stick to the 400V standard and exact lengths, these fit about 95% of the machines out there. You don’t have to dive into your PLC settings or swap out power supplies. You just pull out the burnt-out tube, pop in a new one, and get back to making bottles. Simple as that.
