
How to get the heat without the blinding light
Let’s be honest: stepping into a cold bathroom on a winter morning is the worst. That’s why most infrared heaters use short-wave radiation—it hits you instantly. But there’s a catch. Those quartz tubes can be blinding. If you’ve ever squinted at a bright heater, you know what I mean. It’s a real problem for kids and babies whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. We didn’t want to choose between “warm” and “safe,” so we found a way to fix the light.
Cutting the glare
Most standard lamps throw out a huge amount of visible light along with the heat. It’s like having a spotlight in your shower. To stop that, we added special coatings to the quartz or used IR-pass filters. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the heater. It blocks the harsh, bright light but lets the warmth slide right through. You lose a tiny bit of raw power because of the filter, but it’s a trade-off worth making. You get a cozy bathroom without feeling like you’re staring into the sun.
The guts of the machine
We use high-purity quartz for the tubes. Why? Because we don’t want the filament to snap after a few months. We also spent a lot of time tweaking the voltage and the thickness of the filament. The goal was to get a steady, even heat. No “hot spots.” That way, if you stand a little too close, you won’t get a nasty surprise or a skin burn. It just feels like a consistent, warm hug.
Getting it installed (and keeping it running)
The best part is that these are basically “plug and play.” They’re designed as drop-in replacements with standard connectors, so you aren’t spending your whole weekend messing with wires. One thing to watch out for: bathrooms are damp. Really damp. If your housing isn’t sealed tight, moisture gets in, the terminals rust, and things start to fail—or worse, you get a spark. Just make sure your fixture has enough breathing room. If the heat gets trapped in the housing, it can actually warp the reflector. Give it some air, and it’ll last for years.
