When you’re picking out an infrared wall heater, your first instinct might be to go for the most powerful one on the shelf. But here’s the thing: more power isn’t always better. It’s really about finding that sweet spot where the heat fits the size of your room and the materials you’ve got on the walls. Finding the right power Think about the actual space you’re heating. For a tiny powder room—you know, those little spaces under 4m²—a 400W to 600W lamp is usually plenty to keep things cozy. If you cram a 1200W unit in there, you’re just going to bake yourself and waste electricity. Now, if you’ve got a big master bath (somewhere between 8m² and 12m²), you’ll probably want something beefier. Maybe a single unit between 800W and 1500W, or even a couple of lamps to spread the warmth around. The higher the wattage, the further the heat “throws.” It just reaches deeper into the room. Instant warmth (and a few warnings) These heaters use shortwave infrared. Instead of trying to warm up all the air in the room—which takes forever—they beam heat directly onto you and the walls. Put the heater opposite the coldest spot in the room—usually right across from the door or a window. It cuts the chill instantly. And since you don’t need the heat while you’re not in there, a simple timer or motion sensor is a lifesaver for your electric bill. One last tip for the folks doing the wiring: watch out for voltage drop. If you’re running long wires, make sure they’re thick enough for the wattage. If the wires are too thin, they’ll heat up, the lamp won’t put out as much warmth, and the filament will burn out way faster than it should.
