If you’re running SIG Blomax lines, you know the headache of tubes burning out. It’s frustrating. Usually, it comes down to two things: constant mechanical vibration and the sheer shock of the heat. We got tired of seeing it happen, so we built our replacement lamps for the SIPA SFR 12 to actually take the hit. The heat struggle These are drop-in replacements. We kept the wattage and voltage exactly where they need to be so your heating profile doesn’t go haywire. Now, high-wattage shortwave infrared is great because it blasts energy into the PET preform and cuts your cycle times. But there’s a catch. That kind of heat density puts a massive amount of stress on the quartz envelope. It’s a lot for a piece of glass to handle. Why “standard” quartz isn’t cutting it Most lamps give up at the pinch seal or the connector. Why? Because the centrifugal force of a rotary system is brutal. We switched to a reinforced quartz composition. It’s tougher. It means the tube can handle the constant cycle of heating up and cooling down without just cracking under pressure. Plus, it stops that “sagging” you see in the cheap stuff. When the filament stays centered, you don’t get those annoying hot spots on your preforms. A quick heads-up on installation Getting these in is easy since the footprint is the same. But here is the thing: because the glass is reinforced, it’s stiffer. It doesn’t bend. If your mounting brackets are bent or slightly off,**do not force the lamp into place.**You’ll just end up with a stress fracture. Just make sure your sockets are clean and your alignment is spot on before you slide them in. It’s a simple trade-off. A little more care during setup means you stop swapping tubes every few weeks. You can finally stop worrying about the hardware and just focus on getting your output up.
