
Keeping Your Bathroom Infrared Heaters Safe (And Dry)
Let’s be honest: putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is a bit like inviting a lightning bolt into a sauna. You’ve got steam everywhere, constant moisture, and electricity. It’s a recipe for a bad day if you aren’t careful. When water vapor sneaks into the housing, it creates a path for electricity to go where it shouldn’t. That’s how you get short circuits. To stop that from happening, we obsess over two things: the barrier and the seal. The Invisible Shield We don’t just trust a bit of air to keep the electricity in check. We use high-grade quartz glass and ceramic insulators to keep the live heating element far away from the chassis. But the real secret? We pot the terminals in epoxy. It basically wraps the contact points in a hard, waterproof shell so moisture can’t even get close. If you’re running these on a 220V circuit, that insulation needs to hold up even when the room feels like a tropical rainforest. We test everything to make sure the leakage current is practically nonexistent. Actually Waterproofing the Thing You’ll see “waterproof” slapped on a lot of boxes, but that doesn’t mean much. We aim for IP65 or higher. That means real silicone gaskets and cable entries that actually shut out the world. We also stay away from cheap plastic. Plastic warps when it gets hot, and then your seals fail. Instead, we stick with powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel. They’re tough, they look great, and they don’t trap dampness against the electronics. The Trade-off Here is the catch. When you seal a heater tight to keep the water out, you’re also trapping the heat inside. It’s a balancing act. Because the internal drivers run hotter without a breeze, you have to get your thermal fuses exactly right. Otherwise, a long hot shower could actually burn out the unit. And please, for the love of everything, wire this into a dedicated GFCI breaker. Even with all our insulation, a GFCI is your safety net. It’s the only way to sleep easy knowing everyone is safe in a wet zone.
