
Stop the Hot Spots: Getting Your SIPA Rotary Heating Right
If you’ve spent any time on a PET blowing line, you know the headache of uneven wall thickness. One bottle looks great, the next one fails. It’s frustrating. Most of the time, it comes down to how your preforms are being heated. When you’re swapping out lamps in a SIPA rotary machine for Nissei ASB 150DP replacements, there’s one thing that can ruin your day: power mismatch. Here’s the thing. If your new lamp isn’t a dead ringer for the original wattage and voltage, you’re going to end up with hot spots or cold zones. It’s that simple. Why the numbers actually matter We make these infrared lamps to be true drop-in replacements. Why? Because if the power match is 100%, the heat stays consistent across the whole preform. But if the wattage is even slightly off, your PID controller starts fighting itself. It tries to stabilize, but it can’t, so the heating cycles start oscillating. By keeping our tolerances tight, we make sure the lamp draws exactly what your transformer expects. No guessing games. The guts of the lamp We use high-purity quartz glass because these things go through a brutal cycle of heating and cooling. To keep the filament from burning out too fast, we use a halogen gas fill. It just lasts longer. Depending on your Nissei setup, you’ll probably use R7s or SK15 connectors. We make sure the fit is snug. A loose connection isn’t just a nuisance—it creates electrical resistance. That leads to overheating at the terminal, and before you know it, your socket is fried. The reality of the shop floor Getting the right lamp is a huge win, but it’s only half the battle. High-density IR lamps throw off a massive amount of heat. If your cooling blowers are clogged with dust or just plain worn out, it doesn’t matter how perfect the lamp is. You’ll still overheat the preform or, worse, pop the quartz envelope. Keep your airflow clean. Installing these is a breeze. Pop them in, calibrate your zones, and you can get back to running a line without worrying about inconsistent bottles or unexpected downtime.
