
Why we put our heaters through the “Steam Torture Test”
If you’re putting a heater in a bathroom, you know the deal. It’s a brutal environment. Between the thick steam, the accidental splashes, and that constant heavy humidity, your electronics are basically fighting for their lives. We build our infrared heaters to an IP55 standard, which is a fancy way of saying they can handle dust and water jets without dying. But here’s the thing: a rating on a spec sheet isn’t the same as real life. Over time, seals shrink. Parts shift. Metal oxidizes. That’s why we don’t just trust the rating—we put every unit through a damp-heat aging test.
How we actually do it
We toss the heaters into a chamber that mimics the absolute worst-case scenario for a bathroom. Think suffocating heat mixed with saturated, heavy moisture. Then, we flip the power on and off, over and over. This forces the materials to expand and contract. It’s a stress test. If a seal is even slightly off or a wire wasn’t crimped perfectly, the moisture will find a way in. We’re hunting for the tiny failures—corrosion on the contacts or a sudden electrical breakdown—before the product ever reaches your wall.
The battle with the gaskets
The whole IP55 thing really comes down to the gap between the housing and the lamp assembly. We use specific gaskets to plug that gap. They have to stay tight. Not just on day one, but after hundreds of those heat cycles. If the rubber loses its bounce, the seal breaks, and moisture creeps in. That leads to short circuits or a lamp that burns out way too early. We make sure that doesn’t happen.
Finding the sweet spot
Now, you might think, “Why not just seal it airtight?” Well, there’s a catch. If we make the seal too tight, the heater can’t breathe. Heat builds up inside, and the lamp cooks itself. It’s a balancing act. We spend a lot of time tweaking that tension—keeping it tight enough to block the steam, but open enough so the infrared tube can dissipate heat. The result? A heater that won’t short out when your bathroom turns into a sauna (as long as your electrician does their job with the grounding). We don’t guess how long these things will last. We test them until they break, so you don’t have to.
